The Department of Applied Data Science at San José State University is seeking a lecturer to teach courses effectively, maintain office hours, and cooperate with the department in the peer-review process, in order to address the immense demand for data science professionals and provide students with the advanced education necessary to draw insights from real data and apply analytical skills to solve practical problems.
Requirements
- A Ph.D. or Master's degree with at least 5 years of significant and relevant professional experience in a STEM field
- Knowledge of the subject matter of the discipline in Data Science and Analytics
- Evidence of satisfactory achievement in previous academic work
- Awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population
- Familiarity with the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS)
- Ability to teach courses in data science and analytics
- Experience with online teaching and learning management systems
Responsibilities
- Teach their courses effectively
- Maintain appropriate office hours in accordance with University Policy
- Cooperate with the department in the peer-review process
- Organize classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS)
- Ensure faculty-student connection in a common space through the Canvas platform
- Address the needs of a student population of great diversity
- Offer classes and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester or term
Other
- Demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a student population of great diversity
- Complete CSU employee training as assigned and required based on their role
- Comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment
- Participate in the peer-review process
