Uncommon Goods is looking for a Product Designer with an industrial design background to contribute to new product development, creating joyful, design-forward objects from idea to final production.
Requirements
- Fluent in CAD tools (SolidWorks, Rhino, or Fusion 360) and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Have a portfolio that shows full lifecycle design work: from sketch to shelf, with real-world production and impact.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing (overseas or domestic), packaging, and sourcing.
- 4-6 years of experience in industrial design, consumer goods, or lifestyle product development.
Responsibilities
- Concept, prototype, and develop exclusive products from idea to final production.
- Oversee the full design process—from mood boards and sketching to CAD, specs, pre-production approvals, and launch.
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders (buyers, sourcing, creative, ops) to ensure your designs are not just beautiful—but viable.
- Participate in brainstorming and pitch new ideas to product development and merchandising teams.
- Maintain a sharp POV on trends, customer behavior, and commercial viability.
- Contribute to original product design, working cross-functionally with buying, creative, and sourcing teams to deliver exclusive, manufacturable, unmistakably "UG" products.
Other
- You lead brainstorms that actually spark ideas.
- You present concepts with clarity and conviction.
- You're here to raise the bar.
- Are a strong communicator—visually and verbally—with the ability to defend ideas and influence decisions.
- Passion for sustainability, values-based design, or storytelling through product.
- This is a full-time salaried position with an annual base salary range of $70,000-$80,000.
- This role is eligible for our annual performance bonus program.
- This hybrid role works on-site at our waterfront Brooklyn location 2 days a week reporting to our Director of Product Development.
- Please include a link to your portfolio with your application.
- In your cover letter, briefly answer these two questions: What's a product you designed that successfully made it to market—and what role did you play in making that happen? Name 1 product from the UG website that is a strong example of good design. Share 1 product that is missing from the website that you think UG should carry.
