Norfolk Southern Corp. is looking to enhance its operations through the development of optimization models, decision support software, and data analysis to improve asset utilization and reduce operating costs.
Requirements
- 1+ year experience in developing decision support systems using operations research models.
- Experience in developing decision support systems using operations research models.
- Gurobi, CPLEX, or other optimization solvers.
- One or more programming languages such as Python, Java, or C/C++.
- Statistical analysis tool such as R or MS Excel.
- Database programming languages such as SQL or NoSQL.
- Machine learning, neural network, and deep learning.
Responsibilities
- Assist with building new optimization models, enhancing the existing mathematical models, and conducting data analyses.
- Work on development of decision support software (DSS) to improve assets utilization and to reduce operating cost.

- Active enrolled student during the months of January through April 2026
- Hybrid (three days in office; two days remote)
- Duration: 12 weeks
- Schedule: Monday through Friday; 9AM -5PM
