Babylist is looking for a Director of BI & Data Engineering to lead their self-service (strategy) & data platform. This role is responsible for smooth data operations and delivering data to business teams, analysts, and scientists, ensuring they have the data to support their business areas and setting the vision for evolving the technology stack to deliver a world-class data platform and self-service experience.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience building data in roles of increasing responsibility and technical capability
- 3+ years of experience managing a team of 3 or more analytics and data engineers
- (Bonus) Experience driving cost optimization initiatives in cloud-based data platforms, including warehouse efficiency, query optimization, and storage strategy.
- (Bonus) Knowledge of event-driven architectures and tools such as Kafka or AWS SNS/SQS for building scalable, real-time data pipelines.
- (Bonus) Experience with data cataloging and metadata management tools, such as Atlan, Alation, or similar platforms, to drive discoverability, community, and governance of data assets
Responsibilities
- Own the vision, strategy, and delivery of our self-service capabilities.
- Define and scale development, quality, and governance standards for Sigma; leading the adoption of advanced features and workflows to maximize efficiency and cross-team alignment.
- Guide the technical direction for the entire data platform and work with the data leadership to influence major technical decisions that affect the entire company.
- Anticipate strategic and scaling-related challenges via intentional long-term planning.
- Own vendor evaluation and partnership strategy, staying ahead of trends in BI, data engineering, and AI to bring the right tools and innovations into the organization.
- Own and evolve the data team's development process to optimize for innovation, speed of delivery, and data maturity.
- Set the technical standards and frameworks of scalable SQL transformations, frameworks, and governance practices to support data pipelines and models across the organization.
