The U.S. Census Bureau needs a senior technical leader to oversee its hybrid IT infrastructure, ensuring robust operational performance and supporting the agency's transition to secure native cloud services under the Census Acceleration to Secure Cloud (CASC) framework.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in infrastructure operations, systems engineering, or related IT leadership roles.
- Demonstrated experience managing hybrid cloud and on-premises infrastructure environments.
- Expertise in operational management of critical IT services, including server, storage, networking, and virtualization.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and infrastructure automation tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
- Proven ability to lead technical teams in 24/7 operational environments.
- Strong knowledge of incident, change, and configuration management processes (ITIL framework).
- Understanding of NIST security controls, RMF compliance, and Zero Trust frameworks.
Responsibilities
- Direct enterprise infrastructure engineering design and implementation to support operational requirements and scalability.
- Oversee daily operations across data centers, ensuring service availability and resolving incidents promptly.
- Lead engineering validation of hardware/software solutions that enhance system performance and reliability.
- Ensure operational readiness of cloud deployments aligned to hybrid and multi-cloud strategies.
- Implement and manage automation and monitoring frameworks for proactive infrastructure management.
- Develop, review, and maintain operational documentation, including diagrams, workflows, and runbooks.
- Conduct capacity planning and performance evaluations to anticipate and address infrastructure demands.

- Guide staff training and development in operational excellence and infrastructure technologies.
