Berkley Alternative Markets Tech is looking to make insurance better by addressing its complexity. The Director of Data Engineering and Insights will lead the strategic direction, development, and optimization of the segment’s data infrastructure, integration architecture, and business intelligence capabilities to empower insight generation, enhance decision-making, drive operational efficiency, and support innovation.
Requirements
- Proficient in SQL (SSMS), SSRS, Tableau, Power BI, and Microsoft Excel; experience with Python or other programming languages is a plus.
- Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining data pipelines and solutions on the Azure Cloud platform, including ETL/ELT tools such as Databricks; experience with on-premises tools like SSIS is also valuable.
- Familiarity with predictive analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence; hands-on experience is preferred.
- Deep understanding of data governance, data quality management, and compliance frameworks.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and maintenance of scalable, high-performance data pipelines, data warehouses, and data lakes.
- Ensure seamless integration of disparate data sources to create unified, accessible, and trusted data assets.
- Advocate for and implement modern data engineering tools, platforms, and best practices to enhance data capabilities.
- Direct the design, implementation, and optimization of business intelligence (BI) solutions, including dashboards, reports and self-service analytics tools.
- Evaluate and implement emerging technologies, methodologies, and tools to enhance data management and analytics capabilities.
- Lead experimentation with innovative approaches to leverage internal and external data assets.
- Drive continuous improvement in data operations for greater efficiency, scalability, and reliability.
Other
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in business analytics, financial reporting, or data engineering.
- Proven leadership and team management experience, with a track record of increasing responsibility in data engineering or analytics-focused roles.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable business insights.
- Strong project management and organizational skills, with experience applying Agile methodologies to manage multiple priorities and initiatives.
- Experience in the commercial insurance industry, including exposure to reinsurance data and treaty structures.
- Ability to travel locally and nationally up to 25% of the time.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Actuarial Science, Data Engineering, or a related technical or quantitative field is required.
