ThredUp is looking to solve the business and technical problem of unlocking the potential of secondhand shopping at scale by improving the customer experience across search, personalization, recommendations, and the buyer and seller journeys through data science.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience leading data science, analytics, machine learning, software engineering, or similar technical teams in technology-forward companies.
- Proven ability to solve complex technical problems at scale.
- Ability to define and execute technical and strategic roadmaps that balance immediate delivery with long-term impact.
- Deep expertise in data modeling, applied analytics, experimentation, and machine learning.
- Hands-on experience with large-scale personalization, search, or recommendation systems is preferred.
- Experience with experimentation platforms, A/B testing frameworks, and applying statistical rigor to evaluate model performance in real-world conditions.
Responsibilities
- Set the Vision and Roadmap: Establish a long-term strategic vision for data science and be a critical voice in defining the future of the technology platform as a whole.
- Partner with product and engineering leaders to translate company objectives into a clear, actionable roadmap.
- Lead and Develop the Team: Inspire, lead, and grow a team of 5+ data scientists and analysts, setting goals, mentoring, and creating the conditions for them to do their best work.
- Influence at Scale: Represent the data science perspective to senior leadership, ensuring data shapes product and business decisions across organizational boundaries.
- Elevate Technical Excellence: Set a high bar for technical rigor and champion best practices in analytics and data science, strengthening ThredUp’s data-driven culture.
- Build Data Science Platforms: Oversee infrastructure such as the experimentation platform and AI pipelines, ensuring reliability, scalability, and performance.
