AMETEK Process Instruments is looking to overcome limitations of current methods of process monitoring, control, and quality assurance by designing new, innovative analyzers that help customers achieve higher levels of productivity and quality.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of chemical instrumentation, including absorption spectroscopy (UV, NIR, and IR), laser-based methods (WMS/FMS), chromatography, electrochemistry (amperometry and potentiometric), and other chemical sensor technologies (quartz-crystal microbalances, surface acoustic wave devices, photoionization detectors, catalytic bead sensors, surface plasmon resonance sensors)
  • Practical knowledge of electronic designs, including working knowledge of electronics and electronic circuits as applied to interfacing a variety of chemical sensor technologies (circuit bandwidth requirements, data acquisition rates, special techniques for managing current measurements in the 10-6 to 10-9 ampere range)
  • Experience with data analytics (chemometrics) including multivariate regression and pattern recognition techniques from methods (MLR, PCA, PCR, PLS).
  • Machine learning technologies (neural networks) and experience with signal processing methods are also desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Develop the vision and drive the delivery of Process Instruments’ analyzer and application technology roadmap that supports the future growth of the business
  • Collaborating with Product Management in documenting the technical needs (e.g., Technical Design Specification) for changing end-user process applications, ensuring Process Instruments has the technical portfolio of analyzers to meet these needs
  • Maintaining a deep understanding of changes in electrical, electronic and chemical engineering designs and practices that directly impact the design, compatibility and longevity of PI’s range of analyzers, and bringing these changes into the next generation of analyzer designs
  • Ensuring the time-to-market for analyzer technology developments aligns with the market needs (e.g., Product Design Specification), ensuring proposed solutions meet all Stage-Gate requirements, are compliant with industry directives, are designed for manufacturability (DfM), designed for serviceability (DfS), reliability, and are scalable
  • Maintaining PI’s Intellectual Assets (patented and unpatented) to ensure all proprietary know-how is retained and documented within the business.
  • Supporting Engineering as the BU’s Subject Matter Expert, providing a comprehensive overview of analyzer operation and performance, helping address design and operating challenges for both new and legacy analyzers, first-article evaluation that helps address obsolescence and low-cost region initiatives and contributing to root cause analysis when investigating complex problems and applications
  • Actively participate in the delivery of new products from Ideation to Commercialization, supporting Alpha, Beta and development release plans that ensures newly developed analyzers successfully commercialize by meeting scale-up and release volume assumptions

Other

  • PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Physics
  • 5+ years post doctorate industry experience working/developing analytical instrumentation in an analytical company, or chemical manufacturing/refining or laboratory setting
  • Representing Process Instruments at Events, Conferences and Seminars presenting technical papers that help differentiate PI.
  • This includes publishing white papers that focus on AMETEK’s and PI’s differentiators, positioning PI as a Leader in the development of analyzer technologies
  • Employee Type: Salaried
