Xcel Energy is looking to design the grid of the future by expanding the distribution system to accommodate new demands such as building electrification, electric vehicles, and distributed generation like solar and batteries. The Planning team needs to study these new demands and large generators to ensure the safety and reliability of the distribution system and develop plans to expand its capacity.
Requirements
- Experience with Computer Programming
- Coursework in Circuits and Power Systems
Responsibilities
- Work with the Planning Engineers to support distribution system studies and project development.
- Perform tasks such as power flow studies, distribution project development, developing long-range distribution plans and evaluating community solar garden interconnection studies.
Other
- Current student, Sophomore status (as of May 2026) or higher.
- Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Engineering.
- Able to commute to selected work location in either Amarillo or Lubbock, TX
- Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the fall (up to 20 hours a week).
- May 2026 start.
