Downstream Marketplace aims to streamline the construction industry by building a marketplace for equipment rentals, portable toilets, and roll-off dumpsters. The company is looking to bring price transparency, automation, and intelligence to a traditionally manual and underserved vertical.
Requirements
- Battle-tested with Django: You’ve shipped something real with Django (could be a personal project, failed startup, or production system).
- AI-forward mindset: You’re not just using APIs—you understand how to design systems where AI agents interact with users, data, and business logic.
- Django / Python
- REST APIs (bonus: GraphQL, DRF)
- Postgres or similar relational DB
- Experience with AI integrations (LangChain, OpenAI, custom agent frameworks)
- Startup mentality: Hands-on, resourceful, willing to go beyond your job title.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain Django apps, APIs, and data models that power our marketplace.
- Implement agentic AI architectures—systems where AI agents can reason, plan, and act autonomously to improve workflows.
- Integrate AI tools and services into core product flows (e.g., intelligent recommendations, negotiation agents, supplier matching).
- Drive features from concept → production, collaborating with product, design, and other engineers.
- Contribute to architectural decisions and mentor junior developers.
- Extend and harden our Django backend (marketplace, pricing, logistics).
- Architect AI-forward workflows—particularly agentic systems that orchestrate decision-making, negotiation, and automation for our customers.
Other
- Construction tech is our thing - someone with industry knowledge and experience is key.
- Experience in marketplaces, logistics, sports gambling, insurance or banking.
- Familiarity with Flutter.
- Contributions to open-source AI or Django projects.
- Completion of an assessment as part of the application process.
