General Atomics (GA) is looking to solve high-technology systems development problems ranging from the nuclear fuel cycle to remotely piloted aircraft, airborne sensors, and advanced electric, electronic, wireless and laser technologies.

Requirements

  • Embedded systems development (processor, microcontroller, FPGA, and MPSoC); mixed-signal circuit design (analog/digital); analysis, design, and implementation of hardware systems to include digital, analog, RF, and optical is required.
  • Desirable Experience: Embedded Systems development for complex, high-performance system-of-systems; embedded systems architecture and project development for Xilinx and/or Microsemi devices including Zynq Ultrascale+ MPSoCs and/or SmartFusion2 SoCs;
  • Desired Skills: Experience with Xilinx Vivado Design Suite, Xilinx Vitis Unified Software Platform, Microsemi Libero SoC Design Suite, bare-metal C-code programming, VxWorks, Linux, Buildroot, National Instruments LabVIEW, VHDL, C/C++, PADS or Altium PCB Design Software, Atlassian Tool Suite, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Visio, and Powerpoint.
  • VxWorks implemented on custom, high-requirement hardware; distributed, embedded Linux environments; National Instruments Labview instrumentation and controls development on cRIO devices, including FPGA-level, CPU/RTOS-level, and client-side GUI;
  • Familiarity with DoD technical review process (at a minimum: SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR).
  • Experience with high-power motor drives, power conditioning systems, high-energy laser systems, battery systems, advanced aerospace and electro-optic sensors, space-based optical communications, small satellites and space systems, nuclear thermal propulsion, optical beam pointing and control, and signal/image processing.

Responsibilities

  • Work with GA-EMS Engineering staff and chief engineers in the concept development, architecture, and prototype design, integration, and test of high-power processing solutions for all product lines and technology areas.
  • With consultative direction, exercise considerable latitude in determining technical objectives for the review, research, design, development, and/or solutions for designated engineering systems, projects, and programs.
  • Demonstrate prior experience in the improvement of legacy systems and development of new systems.
  • Generate electrical controls and embedded systems architecture solutions for new project needs, perform engineering analyses for systems and circuits, document findings, communicate results to engineering and program management staff, give technical presentations, and manage technical effort schedules.
  • Function in an advisory or leadership role for a project/program and provide planning, direction and oversight to less experienced professional staff or team of professional staff in technical efforts.
  • Formulate plans, typically multi-year, and coordinate solutions development and deployment including documentation, reporting, publishing, and making technical and other presentations to ensure viability of the solutions in an evolving environment.
  • Evaluate the integration of the engineering solutions within the overall engineering environment and ensure that appropriate documentation, testing, maintenance, and engineering updates are completed.

Other

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree, master's degree, or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; fifteen or more years of experience with a bachelor’s degree, thirteen or more years of experience with a master’s degree, or ten or more years with a PhD.
  • Active DoD Security Clearance is required.
  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving project environment.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to effectively interface with other departments, customers, government representatives, and/or professionals.
  • Some travel and extended work schedules may be required.
