Xcel Energy is looking for an intern to support the Transmission Control Center's Real Time Planning (RTP) team. This role will assist in maintaining and improving the tools, programs, and databases used for operational tasks like outage coordination, power flow studies, and real-time issue resolution, ultimately ensuring the smooth operation of the transmission grid.
Requirements
- Enrolled in an ABET accredited Electrical Engineering program.
- Completed a Power Systems course
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Responsibilities
- Work with the Engineering staff to support the Transmission Control Center.
- Support the operation of the transmission grid by doing tasks that support the tools, programs, and databases used to perform various operational tasks such as outage coordination, powerflow studies, power system monitoring, and finding solutions to issues in real time out to two years in the future.
- Gain significant professional confidence in simple power flow studies for planned transmission outages, transmission line loading reviews, and restoration planning.

- Current student, Sophomore or higher
- Be self-motivated, have good mechanical aptitude, good communication skills; both written and verbally, and ability to work well with other Engineers.
- This will be a summer opportunity with the potential to extend into a school semester.
- The candidate should be able to work full-time during the summer with the option to work up to 16 hrs./wk. during a school semester.
