Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a Data Link Strategy and Protocol developer to manage and evolve the data link strategies and protocols used across their machines, engines, and communication networks, ensuring compliance with global regulations and industry standards.
Requirements
- Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.
- Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
- Knowledge of software design and development tools and activities; ability to produce software products or systems in line with product requirements.
- Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application or operation
- Solid experience with communication networks including Ethernet, J1939 Proprietary, Cat Data Link, and various data link protocols.
- Extensive experience with design and development process of Data Link Communication Protocols
Responsibilities
- Manage all data link strategies and protocols used on machines, engines, and various other communication networks including Ethernet, J1939 Proprietary, Cat Data Link, and various data link protocols.
- Lead a committee of technical domain experts formed to review data link strategy and protocols.
- Collaborate with protocol requesters to review proposed designs and ensure that all requests are complete and compliant with protocol design standards.
- Serve as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert, providing guidance, training, and direction on data link communications and protocols to other engineers.
- Assume a lead role ensuring compliance with global regulatory requirements governing emissions, noise, and telecommunications, as well as industry standards that include IEEE and SAE.
- Research existing protocol solutions in industry such as ISO, and SAE so that we can leverage existing solutions.
- Engage in the design and development process of Data Link Communication Strategies and Protocols.
Other
- 4-year degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics Technology or a related field from an accredited school
- Strong people interaction, teamwork, communication, and computer skills are required.
- The candidate must be detail oriented and a proven “self starter,” with a strong record of achievement and results.
- Also a strong English language proficiency is required.
- This position requires working onsite five days a week.
