GM is looking to innovate in aerodynamic design and optimization for next-generation vehicles by integrating Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) with Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML). The goal is to improve vehicle efficiency, cost, and performance through cutting-edge R&D.

Requirements

  • Deep understanding of vehicle aerodynamics, including drag reduction, downforce, and flow control.
  • Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, turbulence modeling, and numerical methods.
  • Experience in design optimization workflows using CFD and ML.
  • Proficiency in CFD tools such as PowerFLOW and STAR-CCM+.
  • Familiarity with HPC environments and cloud computing
  • Familiarity with development of CFD-based AI training data sets and AI model training
  • Familiarity with various AI modeling approaches such as PINNs, GNNs, and Neural Operators

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute CFD simulations to analyze and optimize vehicle aerodynamic performance.
  • Develop passive and active aerodynamic technologies to improve aero performance
  • Conduct post-processing and visualization of simulation data to extract actionable insights.
  • Support the development of digital twins and simulation-guided design frameworks.
  • Integrate AI/ML techniques to accelerate simulation workflows and enable predictive modeling.
  • Build and train surrogate models and physics-informed neural networks for flow prediction and design optimization.
  • Present technical findings and recommendations to stakeholders across engineering and product teams.

  • This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, MI a minimum of three times per week or other frequency dictated by the business.
  • PhD in Aerospace, Automotive, or Mechanical Engineering specialized in Aerodynamics
  • Candidates must have either a minimum of three (3) years of relevant industry experience or a Ph.D. degree with demonstrated research experience in a related discipline.
  • U.S. Citizenship required pursuant to government contract
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
