Best Buy's Retail Media Network Ad Engineering is looking for an Engineer II to deliver complex product features that are well-tested, scalable, and production-ready, supporting backend engineering at scale with a solid understanding of cloud infrastructure, microservice architecture, and system performance.
Requirements
- 2+ years of relevant enterprise software engineering experience at scale
- 2+ years of development experience with Java, Spring, REST web services, and similar technologies
- 2+ years of cloud experience (AWS preferred, GCP acceptable)
- 1+ years of experience with Postgres, Kafka, or similar technologies
- 1+ years of experience with tools such as Swagger, Postman, Kibana, Grafana, Prometheus, Stratus, and GitHub Actions (GHA)
- 1+ years of experience with test-driven development (TDD) and writing unit/integration tests
- Understanding of performance monitoring tools and practices, including load testing and system optimization
- Experience applying design patterns and working within microservice architecture
- Strong ability to build and optimize backend systems in a cloud-native environment
- Experience building highly scalable, resilient, and performant applications
- Advanced proficiency in system observability and operational excellence practices
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and Git-based workflows
Responsibilities
- Design and implement application features end-to-end, collaborating with internal and external partners
- Participate in planning and architecture discussions, applying design patterns and microservice best practices
- Enhance internal libraries, tools, and developer workflows to improve engineering efficiency and experience
- Lead and support production triage, incident response, and cross-environment troubleshooting
- Drive performance optimization, load testing, and monitoring using tools like Swagger, Postman, Kibana, Grafana, Prometheus, Stratus, and GitHub Actions.
- Mentor peers, foster team growth, and stay current with industry trends to introduce innovative engineering solutions

- This role is hybrid, which means you will work some days on site at a Best Buy location and some days virtually from home or other non-Best Buy location.
- For this role, you must be located within a drivable distance to our office in Richfield, Minnesota.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with product managers and cross-functional stakeholders
