As application volume grows and programs become more complex, full-time Engineers will rely on intern support to meet demand for DER interconnection company-wide.
Requirements
- Assist in power systems modeling and load flow analysis using tools such as CYME and PSCAD to evaluate DER impacts.
- Analyze and visualize system data using Excel, PI System, GIS, and Oracle Network Management Systems (NMS) to support planning and operations.
- Completed coursework in Power Systems, Circuit Analysis, Energy Conversion, and Renewable Energy.
- Experience or Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, specifically Power BI and Excel.
Responsibilities
- Support integration of distributed energy resources (DERs), including solar PV and battery storage, unto the utility grid.
- Support the technical reviews of interconnection applications to ensure compliance with utility standards and maintain grid reliability.
- Assist in power systems modeling and load flow analysis using tools such as CYME and PSCAD to evaluate DER impacts.
- Analyze and visualize system data using Excel, PI System, GIS, and Oracle Network Management Systems (NMS) to support planning and operations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including Engineering, Modeling, and the Project Management Office (PMO)—on grid modernization initiatives and process improvement efforts.
- Participate in customer meetings and stakeholder discussions to support DER integration and interconnection coordination.

- Current student, Junior status (as of May 2026) or higher.
- Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
- Able to commute to the service center in Denver, CO, St. Paul, MN, or Lubbock, TX.
- Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the fall (up to 20 hours a week).
- 3.0 GPA (out of a 4.0 scale) or higher
