Xcel Energy is seeking candidates to support their Major Projects Group, working in-person on active construction projects. The paid internship provides an opportunity to showcase abilities in the engineering group that supports both new construction and retrofits of electric power plants.
Requirements
- Enrolled in an ABET accredited electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering program.
- Completed 2 years of undergraduate coursework.
- Experience or Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Responsibilities
- Participate in construction oversight and planning, field inspections, and safety observations.
- Collaborate with Xcel staff to ensure the project is built in accordance with applicable engineering codes and standards.
- Learn about drawing updates and field engineering changes that occur during an active project.
- Gain knowledge of how to manage vital professional project relationships.
- Assist with internal documentation, tracking of project metrics, and reporting.
- Assist with vendor outreach and coordination.
Other
- Current student, Sophomores and higher (Graduating Seniors as of Spring 2026 (not continuing to Graduate School) are not eligible to participate.)
- Able to work full-time during the summer, 40 or more hours per week.
- Must have a reliable means of transportation to be able to commute to work 100% in-person at the assigned project site.
- Candidate must either already live within a commutable distance or be able to relocate for several months.
- Must have a valid driver license and personal vehicle
