ProMach is looking for an Engineering Manager to ensure the timely and cost-effective completion of all work and projects assigned to the engineering departments, aiming to improve customers' packaging performance and efficiency and build the future of packaging automation.

Requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience leading or managing a manufacturing facility engineering department; 10 years additional experience in design and/or application engineering, packaging experience preferred
  • 8–10 years’ manufacturing/operations experience, with proven success in a related leadership position in an environment of custom capital goods
  • Knowledge and experience in Packaging Machinery preferred
  • Organize and maintain engineering records for change control and version control
  • Experience with Lean process with a demonstrated ability to reduce cost and improve efficiency
  • Knowledge of business, finance, and management principles

Responsibilities

  • Manage mechanical engineering projects which include obtaining customer specifications, developing and designing new equipment, change parts and machine retrofits.
  • Continual improvement of current products to improve quality and reduce costs.
  • Develop and maintain an effective and efficient design review process that is a tool for learning as well as value added for the company.
  • Plan and balance production projects and new product development activities with the use of existing internal, and external engineering resources if applicable, to maintain project schedules.
  • Design of machined and fabricated parts. Prepares proper bills of material based on design and works with purchasing to order necessary material for production.
  • Responsible for application of engineering knowledge of machinery principles and materials, manufacturing methods and processes to ensure designs are functional, practical, economical and satisfy customer operating requirements.
  • Interface with the manufacturing to ensure parts designs are properly fabricated, machined, and assembled according to prints; may also include revising mechanical design specifications/drawings in accordance with internal fabrication capabilities.

Other

  • Develop and maintain applicable procedures and work instructions to ensure high quality, efficient and repeatable engineering related tasks.
  • Mentor new design engineers that come on board. Work with them with positive reinforcement to build confidence and ability to think on their own.
  • Interface and act as a technical resource with other departments e.g. production, sales/marketing, parts, purchasing, accounting, etc., to coordinate engineering work/projects with production to ensure customer on-time delivery. Prepare and direct reports to other departments to address and resolve inquiries and problems.
  • Oversee all aspects of engineering, to include engineering costs, quality and quantity of department production, and effective use of employee work hours and employee skills.
  • Take part in the annual review process for all direct reporting staff.
  • Maintain a positive work environment within the engineering department and with other departments.
  • Resolve engineering issues as they arise by working closely with vendors, internal PACE PACKAGING staff management and other ProMach business units.
  • Coordinate the time spent on a project by the design engineers and work closely with the PACE PACKAGING Production Manager as well as the Sales Leader to establish project timelines and determine necessary actions to maintain or improve.
  • PACE PACKAGING representative as lead technical advisor on product quality and cost control teams.
  • Track, report and uphold established company targets for Engineering Department key performance indicators in accordance with company standards and goals.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering (mechanical, preferred) or equivalent experience
  • Proven track record of managerial expertise of departments, involving engineering-based problem-solving, personnel management, and employee morale development
  • Desired but not required: experience in materials management (inventory and production control and procurement)
