The City of Columbia is looking to manage a division within the city department, providing leadership and expert-level engineering and project management to solve operational and technical problems.
Requirements
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required.
- Principles, practices, and methods of engineering.
- Standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment of building trades.
- Knowledge of maps, deeds, plats, and plans.
- Knowledge of regulations and codes related to a specific job division.
- Business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, and/or production methods.
- Managerial best practices and methods.
Responsibilities
- Plans, organizes, prioritizes, and directs activities of the division and ensures operational effectiveness.
- Prepares and analyzes budgets and plans daily operations, maintenance, and projects—coordinates requisition, purchase, and maintenance of Engineering Division assets.
- Draft council correspondence for the introduction of resolutions and ordinances required to complete public improvement projects.
- Prepares engineering reports or oversees consultants preparing engineering reports.
- Oversees capital improvement and department projects, including design and inspection, managing project budgets and schedules.
- Ensures compliance with regulations, codes, and specifications for development and improvement projects.
- Seals technical submissions in accordance with the Missouri Revised Statutes and the Rules of the Missouri Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Professional Land Surveyors, and Professional Landscape Architects.
Other
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related field appropriate to the job responsibility.
- 7 to 9 years’ experience in engineering, construction, or related field.
- 1 to 3 years’ supervisory experience.
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
- Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
