Sched, a $5M ARR event management platform, is looking to evolve its engineering organization to increase efficiency and move towards an AI-enabled future, while modernizing its 15+ year legacy system.
Requirements
- Experience leading engineers in a SaaS environment
- Strong technical foundation in PHP or similar web stacks
- Experience modernizing or refactoring legacy systems
- Comfortable jumping into code when needed
- Deeply integrates AI into daily engineering workflows
- Strong technical foundation in AI-assisted development tools (Copilot, Cursor, Claude, Replit, etc.)
- Experience with modern development practices and tools
Responsibilities
- Assess the current PHP codebase and infrastructure
- Identify legacy areas, high-risk sections, and modernization priorities
- Document technical debt in a way the business can act on
- Define where AI tools can realistically speed up documentation, refactoring, and testing
- Establish a predictable development workflow that blends human judgment + AI output
- Build a modernization plan we can execute in phases alongside normal product work
- Improve the health of our legacy PHP system through structured cleanup and documentation

- Strong prioritization, sequencing, and tradeoff skills
- Bias toward action and iterative improvement
- Ability to work closely with Product, Sales, and Customer Success teams
