Newport News Shipbuilding is looking to solve the problem of finding talented students to gain experience in technical or administrative positions and provide the opportunity to possibly gain future full-time employment, specifically in areas such as electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil/structural engineering, business, management, accounting, and economics/finance.
Requirements
- Enrolled in a degreed program that supports the company's business requirements, such as electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil/structural engineering, business, management, accounting, or economics/finance
- Completed at least one year of coursework by May
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Ability to pass a criminal background investigation and a hair follicle drug screen
- Ability to work a 40-hour work week for a minimum of 10 weeks during the summer
- Ability to physically access a wide variety of work sites, including those aboard ships under various stages of construction or overhaul
- Familiarity with artificial intelligence, machine learning (AI/ML) concepts is a plus
Responsibilities
- Gain experience in technical or administrative positions
- Work on projects related to the design, build, and refuel of U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and submarines
- Collaborate with a diverse team of professionals, including skilled tradespeople, engineers, software developers, and solution architects
- Physically access a wide variety of work sites, including those aboard ships under various stages of construction or overhaul
- Use vertical and inclined ladders, and may involve limited kneeling, stooping, standing, etc.
- Participate in a 40-hour work week for a minimum of 10 weeks during the summer
- Contribute to the development of the most powerful and survivable naval ships in the world

- Be at least 18 years of age before the start of the summer intern program
- Attend a college/university (undergraduate or graduate program) in the fall following the internship
- Provide an adequate email address when applying, receiving communication, and obtaining employment offers
