VetsEZ is seeking an Enterprise Architect SME to provide enterprise-level architectural leadership in support of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), overseeing technical strategy and system design for large-scale, hybrid healthcare data platforms, including the VX130 ecosystem.
Requirements
- 15+ years of experience in enterprise architecture, systems engineering, or technical leadership roles in mission-critical environments.
- Proven experience with hybrid cloud/on-premise infrastructure, including Azure cloud services and enterprise data centers.
- Deep knowledge of enterprise database platforms such as InterSystems IRIS/Caché, Oracle, and SQL Server.
- Expertise in healthcare data integration, metadata-driven design, and interoperability standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR).
- Strong understanding of system security, compliance, performance optimization, and disaster recovery best practices in federal environments.
- Experience with VA systems including VX130 and VistA modernization efforts.
- Familiarity with enterprise messaging platforms such as InterSystems Ensemble or Health Connect.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the senior architectural lead across interconnected systems including VX130, mirrored IRIS environments, Azure-hosted services, and on-premise infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain enterprise architecture artifacts such as integration strategies, technical roadmaps, system topology, and data flow documentation.
- Ensure alignment of architecture with long-term goals for data migration, syndication, and analytics within VA-hosted and external environments.
- Provide technical oversight and guidance on infrastructure scalability, system performance, high availability, backup/recovery, and security compliance.
- Lead design reviews and ensure development teams follow architecture standards and federal compliance guidelines (e.g., ATO).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including infrastructure, application development, and data engineering—to implement end-to-end solutions.
- Engage directly with government stakeholders to present architectural strategies, respond to mission needs, and support transition planning.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience presenting technical solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
- TOGAF, Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect, or SAFe Architect certifications.
