The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) needs to analyze and interpret hydrological data to support environmental research and decision-making processes for water resource management and flood control.
Requirements
- Associate's Degree in Natural Sciences, Engineering Technology, or an Environmental Science equivalency; or a graduate of a technical/vocational program in a Natural Science, Engineering Technology, or related field, and 5+ years' experience.
- Associate's Degree in Natural Sciences, Engineering Technology, or an Environmental Science equivalency; or a graduate of a technical/vocational program in a Natural Science, Engineering Technology, or related field and 3+ years' experience.
- Associate's Degree in Natural Sciences, Engineering Technology, or an Environmental Science equivalency; or a graduate of a technical/vocational program in a Natural Science, Engineering Technology, or related field and 1+ years' experience.
- Associate's Degree in Natural Sciences, Engineering Technology, or an Environmental Science equivalency; or a graduate of a technical/vocational program in a Natural Science, Engineering Technology, or related field, and less than 1-year experience.
- Valid State of Florida Driver's License required.
Responsibilities
- Perform data analysis for an average of 200 stations in support of several District initiatives, including EAA-C139 Annual Basin and EAA Water Conditions Reports, Everglades Settlement Agreement, Governing Board Drought Report, NON-ECP EFA Permit, Operations, Research and Modeling, SFER, STAs, and Water Supply.
- Perform graphical verification analysis with a detailed hands-on visual review of data values.
- Participate in the regular hydrologic monitoring functions within the HDM Section by working with Engineers, Engineering Technicians, Programmers, and the SCADA Section to resolve any data anomalies resulting from the operation of the instrumentation and monitoring facilities, including surveying monuments for horizontal and vertical movement.
- Participate in organizational improvement initiatives (i.e., Graphical Verification Analysis (GVA), Data Analysis System (DAS), etc.), assist in other data analysis applications testing, and train Environmental Data Analyst 2 or 1.
- Support Hydrometric Services with Stream Gauging efforts, as necessary.
- Analyze and interpret hydrological data to support environmental research and decision-making processes.
- Use analytical skills, including interpreting data, identifying trends, manipulating and communicating data, and performing advanced technical tasks to ensure the accuracy of the hydrologic and meteorological data in the database.

- May be filled as an Environmental Data Analyst 4,3,2, or 1.
- Due to the District's response role and the total scope of emergency management, this position may, at times, be required to provide support before, during, and after major storm events and other declared emergencies, depending on the assigned emergency response role.
- Mostly sedentary in an office environment, sitting at a desk and operating a personal computer to produce work products.
