Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking an experienced leader to provide senior engineering management oversight and implement strategic initiatives to improve the overall function of the Engineering Services Division.

Requirements

  • High-level technical experience in system engineering for nuclear or industrial facility operations, including extensive experience in the identification of nuclear and high-hazard facility system life-cycle degradation and management
  • Extensive knowledge/experience with the concept of engineering formality, applications of engineering methods, and technology-aided engineering tools for conventional and non-conventional engineering problems
  • Expert knowledge of engineering work planning and control methods, engineering maintenance techniques, construction methodologies, and performance-based indicators
  • High-level experience developing and maintaining Engineering Standards for the design, construction, commissioning, and maintenance of facilities and SSCs
  • Experience with the performance of IBC Section 110 and Chapter 17 special inspections, Owner's inspections associated with IBC and other codes/standards (e.g., ASME), and review of associated reports for adequacy
  • Demonstrated experience serving as a key advisor to deployed engineers, developing and implementing guidance for all activities linked to the maintenance and reporting of VSSs
  • Expert knowledge of industry, regulatory and DOE/NNSA complex codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to Conduct of Engineering, Configuration Management and Systems Engineering such as DOE O 420.1C, DOE STD-1073, NQA-1 and nuclear facility safety basis implementation

Responsibilities

  • Conduct of Engineering (CoE) Program Management
  • Maintain and implement the Conduct of Engineering (CoE) program as appropriate to facility operation and engineering
  • Monitor and evaluate facility operational performance against the standards and requirements of the CoE program
  • Developing and maintain the engineering skill set required to execute the Division's mission
  • Integrate engineering capabilities with other facility support organizations (operations, maintenance, safety basis, quality assurance, procurement, project management)
  • Provide engineering resources in support of facility and infrastructure management, as well as project execution
  • Communicate with all levels of internal and external customers to define and recommend cross-organizational operational objectives

Other

  • Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 12 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
  • A professional license (PE) in an engineering discipline from a recognized licensing board is preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in effectively interfacing with all levels of management, staff, and customers
  • Strong interpersonal skills in both verbal and written communications
  • Expertise in negotiations and resolving conflicts
  • Must be a U.S. citizen to obtain a Q clearance
