The U.S. Navy is looking to develop new propulsion plant designs for its submarines, which presents significant technical challenges that must be overcome, and Electric Boat is seeking test engineers to support this development.
Requirements
- experience with submarine systems, propulsion plants, or auxiliary machinery
- Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program experience
- Graduated from Navy Nuclear Power School, A School, and/or Prototype
- reading and developing diagrams/schematics and construction drawings
- deriving requirements from specifications
- making material and component selections
- performing engineering calculations
Responsibilities
- evaluations that support development of the test program for propulsion plant fluid systems
- concept development for future propulsion plants including fluid system design
- analysis (impacts to safety, cost, schedule, performance, operations, and maintenance)
- arrangement integration (where things are located on the boat)
- component development (what is needed to support the overall plant design)
- lead teams to develop new ideas and concepts and work to bring them to fruition
- frequent interface with multiple Electric Boat engineering disciplines, vendors, Newport News Shipbuilding, Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL), and NAVSEA 08
Other
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- 4+ years of U.S. Navy experience and/or commercial nuclear experience
- Current DoD Secret clearance
- A Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical, marine, or nuclear engineering
- strong interpersonal, organizational, project management, oral and written communication skills
