The Image Scientist - Expert provides expertise in imagery science, imagery analysis, and photogrammetry to enable the detailed technical analysis of GEOINT product quality concerns.
Requirements
- Scientist candidates must have experience in applied image processing and scientific analysis of imagery (SAR, IR, Spectral, Lidar), knowledge of image formation, and associated discipline phenomenology.
- Experience scientifically processing imagery (SAR, IR, Spectral, Lidar) from Civil and Commercial imaging systems, proficiency with techniques, algorithms, and scientific analysis of associated discipline data processing using RSI ENVI.
- Proficiency using ITT ENVI COTS image processing software, ERDAS IMAGINE, MS Office, Windows, and knowledge of programming languages such as IDL, R, Python.
- Familiarity with commercial and civil data sources, integration of resulting data into ArcGIS.
- Experience with GOTS applications such as FSTK and AGITK is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert/senior imagery scientist support through accomplishment of technical reviews, consultations, oversight of proposed and executed GEOINT product quality assessments and studies, and strategic level product quality direction.
- Provide image processing algorithm validation and verification in support of GEOINT product quality assessments or ad hoc customer requests.
- Provide imagery science services and analysis in support of GEOINT product quality assessments for the full range of traditional and non-traditional imaging systems, products, and data formats; sensor fidelity assessment, pixel registration assessment, Tonal Transfer Curve assessments, Relative Edge Response assessment, MTF and Signal to Noise Ratio assessment, and other product quality parameters.
- Support algorithm development in support of imagery science tasks and assessment of various product quality parameters.
- Provide expert/senior photogrammetrist services and engineering in support of the full range of traditional and non-traditional imaging systems and products; assessment of product geolocation accuracy using verified geolocation of a known features, verifying mensuration accuracy through measurement of known objects, calculating ground sample distance, and other photogrammetric analyses as directed.
- Provide senior imagery analyst support through technical review, consultation, and oversight of proposed and executed product quality assessments and studies, and strategic level product quality direction.
- Provide expert/senior imagery analyst services in support of GEOINT product quality assessment planning, execution, and results analysis; imagery review, artifact analysis, NIIRS evaluations (absolute NIIRS, delta NIIRS, and ENS NIIRS evaluations), display performance assessments, etc.
Other
- A minimum of 20 years of experience and a Bachelor of Science degree in image science, remote sensing, earth science, physical science, engineering, or similar engineering/science field.
- A MS degree may count for up to 2 years of experience, and a relevant PhD may count for up to 6 years of experience.
- Scientists must possess the ability to communicate effectively in writing and oral presentations
- Ability to work cooperatively and effectively as a team member.
- Active TS/SCI (w/ poly preferred)
