The Palo Alto Veterans Institute for Research (PAVIR) is seeking a Research Assistant to support projects focused on understanding the mechanisms underlying neurological diseases and the potential therapeutic applications of human pluripotent stem cells using advanced genomic editing techniques, molecular biology methods, and in vivo animal models.
Requirements
- 0-1 year of undergraduate or post-graduate research laboratory experience.
- Demonstrated interest and, ideally, hands-on experience in areas such as human cell culture, human pluripotent stem cell techniques, CRISPR genome editing, molecular biology, animal handling, behavioral testing, ddPCR, FACS, and confocal microscopy.
- Willingness to work with animals and human tissues.
Responsibilities
- Production, maintenance, and quality control of human pluripotent stem cells.
- Cellular analysis using immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, and other molecular biology techniques.
- Operation of sophisticated laboratory instruments such as flow cytometers, automated fluorescence microscopes, plate washers, automated pipettors, and liquid handling robotics.
- Conducting behavioral testing and analysis in murine models, as well as performing animal surgeries for cellular transplantation and stroke induction.
- Managing laboratory supplies, preparing media and stock solutions, and ensuring compliance with institutional and federal health, safety, and animal regulations.
- Preparing figures and protocols, teaching lab techniques, and contributing to the overall success of the research team.
