Blue Origin is working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems, and is looking for a Flight Software Engineer II to define, develop, and test the flight software for the upcoming Blue Ring uncrewed spacecraft, addressing the challenges of space infrastructure and increasing mobility on-orbit.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, aerospace, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Breadth of understanding in software development concepts
  • 3+ years of experience in defining and/or verifying low-level software structure, inter process communication, and scheduling
  • Demonstrated software development skills in real-time embedded systems, particularly C/C++
  • Experience working within development and test environments that use containers and python
  • Effective debugging skills at the software/hardware boundary
  • Experience with spacecraft development and operations, such as proposals, system definition, design, production, integration, verification, on-orbit checkout, mission operations, and anomaly resolution

Responsibilities

  • Define, develop, and test the flight software for the Blue Ring uncrewed spacecraft
  • Work with a team of engineers to understand how the software will be used and define requirements
  • Create real-time software using modern embedded C/C++ techniques
  • Contribute to tests and pipelines to ensure the continued quality of products
  • Support other areas such as avionics hardware and mission operations
  • Participate in the buildup and test of the actual flight vehicles
  • Expand understanding of satellite systems

  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships
  • Active or ability to acquire/renew clearance, Top Secret (TS) / Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) security clearance with Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) with polygraph preferred
  • U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
  • Background check required, including Blue’s Standard Background Check and potentially others
  • Must be willing to work in a collaborative environment and embody leadership principles including resourcefulness, deliver results, bias for action, and technical ambition and simplicity
