The Department of Defense needs to advance its mission to keep the country safe and secure by designing, building, and sustaining data-driven backend systems that power secure, high performance search and analytics capabilities.
Requirements
- Advanced proficiency in multiple backend programming languages (Python, Go, Java, or similar).
- Deep understanding of search and data systems, including indexing, query optimization, and caching strategies.
- Experience designing and managing databases (PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, or similar).
- Proven experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS) and container orchestration (Docker & Kubernetes).
- Strong background in DevSecOps, including CI/CD (GitLab CI, ArgoCD, etc.) and infrastructure-as-code (Helm, Terraform, Ansible).
- Experience building and maintaining secure, compliant systems in federal or defense environments.
- Familiarity with distributed systems, API design, and secure service-to-service communication.
Responsibilities
- Architect and develop backend services for data ingestion, search, and retrieval across structured and unstructured data sources.
- Design APIs and microservices that enable search, indexing, and metadata operations across multiple environments.
- Engineer and maintain a unified access control layer and data models to protect and make operational and analytical data available.
- Implement DevSecOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and continuous monitoring across classified and unclassified networks.
- Ensure system reliability and compliance with cybersecurity and accreditation requirements (RMF, NIST 800-53, etc.).
- Collaborate across functional teams, including data science, cloud, and frontend engineering, to deliver end-to-end technical solutions.
- Provide technical leadership through code reviews, mentorship, design documentation, and engineering best practices.
