The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) is seeking a researcher to architect novel solutions for complex, often poorly defined clinical problems using applied machine learning for healthcare.
Requirements
- Expert proficiency in Python, including deep learning with PyTorch and core data science libraries (NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn).
- Demonstrated proficiency with Git for version control.
- Solid understanding of machine learning theory (e.g., classification, regression, cross-validation).
- Prior project experience in Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing (NLP), or Multimodal Learning.
- Proficiency with research infrastructure, including Unix/Linux command line, cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), database querying (SQL), and containerization (Docker).
- Solid software engineering fundamentals that go beyond basic scripting (e.g., data structures, algorithms, design patterns).
Responsibilities
- Conduct fundamental and innovative research in applied machine learning for healthcare.
- Formulate approaches to solve complex problems using well-defined algorithms and data sources.
- Develop, implement, and rigorously evaluate machine learning models on large-scale health datasets.
- Perform data exploration to uncover new questions and opportunities within clinical problem areas.
- Maintain clean, version-controlled code and create reproducible research workflows.
- Contribute to the writing and preparation of manuscripts for publication in top-tier journals and conferences.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
