The position will support the National Institute for Student Success (NISS) grant by providing analytics aid to various functional areas such as the Associate Vice Provost for Student Success, Financial Aid, etc., to accelerate student success efforts at SHSU.
Requirements
- use SQL to prepare data by querying databases and then cleaning and transforming the data
- provide statistics, do statistical testing and modeling, and general data mining as appropriate to address research questions
- work with the data analytics team using machine learning techniques to develop predictive analytics to support institutional efforts aimed at student access and student success
- summarize their findings in technical documentation using both narrative and visualizations to support the decision-making of institutional stakeholders
- A basic understanding of statistics methodologies
- Some programming experience
- A strength in some combination of data analytics skills and a willingness to develop where other skills are lacking
Responsibilities

- reports, briefs (one-pagers, etc.), slide decks and presentations, and dashboard development and maintenance
Other
- Master's or Doctoral student in good academic standing.
- Plan to be enrolled in graduate studies through December 2025(or beyond).
- Be committed to working 20 hours per week (schedule to be set in conjunction with supervisor) from January 2024- December 2024 including the summer term.
