Siemens Grid Software team works to accelerate and secure the energy transition, ensuring a reliable, affordable energy supply in a decentralizing, decarbonizing, digitalizing, and all-electrifying energy world. This internship aims to prepare students to join Siemens as full-time employees after graduation.

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of electrical power systems including generation, transmission, distribution, and protection.
  • Familiarity with simulation and analysis tools (e.g. PowerWorld, PSS®E, MATLAB/Simulink, PSLF, ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, or PSCAD).
  • Coursework or experience in power system analysis, protection, or renewable integration.
  • Exposure to renewable generation, FACTS, and/or smart grid technologies.
  • Programming skills (e.g. Python, C++, VBA) for data analysis or tool customization.
  • Working knowledge of applications of Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.

Responsibilities

  • Apply transmission and/or distribution power system model topology changes.
  • Analyze transmission and/or distribution power systems through steady state, short circuit, or transient stability studies.
  • Conduct research on the processes and guidelines for load and generation interconnections to the power grid & new challenges for the future of the grid.
  • Assist in the modeling and simulation of electrical power systems using tools such as PowerWorld, PSS®E, PSLF, ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, and/or PSCAD.
  • Support the development of technical proposals, reports, and presentations for clients.
  • Analyze system performance data and contribute to power quality, reliability, and efficiency assessments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support project delivery and client engagements.

Other

  • Current graduate student pursuing a master's degree.
  • Eligible candidates must not graduate prior to December 2026.
  • Pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Energy Engineering, or related field.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship.
  • Ability to work independently as well as effectively as part of multinational and diverse groups.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Self-starter with good time management skills and the capacity to effectively prioritize a variety of concurrent activities.
