Draper is seeking a Design for Manufacturing/Assembly engineer with experience in cable and harness design and fabrication to ensure Design for Manufacturing/Assembly principles are applied and to work towards a smooth transition to internal or external assemblers.
Requirements
- design or assembly experience with cables and harnesses for high reliability/aerospace applications.
- familiar with IPC-WHMA-A 620 and/or NASA 8739.4, as well as J-STD-001.
- experience performing DFX reviews and generating feedback for design engineers.
- Experience with Creo or SolidWorks cable design tools is preferred.
- Experience in an ISO 9001 or AS9100 environment is preferred.
Responsibilities
- reviewing cable layouts and drawings for completeness, complexity and areas for improvement.
- review work requests submitted to internal service centers to generate DFA reports for both the submitter and the process engineering team.
- act as a Subject Matter Expert as an independent reviewer in design and milestone reviews.
- work with outside Contract Manufacturers to address component, assembly and workmanship issues.
- support Mission Assurance to review and assist in disposition of defects identified at Incoming and In-Process inspection, as well as supporting internal assembly capability.
- Use Computer Aided Design (CAD) programs to create product concepts.
- Provide insight and suggest design or process modifications based on quantitative data or results.
