Tapestry, X's moonshot for the electric grid, is looking to transform the way electricity is delivered and managed, and needs a Head of Engineering to define and execute the technical strategy to support this mission.
Requirements
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in software engineering, with a strong background in building complex, distributed systems, high-performance computing, or AI/ML platforms.
- Demonstrated expertise in architectural design and technical strategy for mission-critical systems.
- Experience with AI/ML model deployment and MLOps at scale.
- Familiarity with power systems modeling, control systems, or energy market operations.
- Experience in the energy sector, electric utilities, or grid technology.
- Strong background in building complex, distributed systems, high-performance computing, or AI/ML platforms.
- Experience with architectural design and technical strategy for mission-critical systems.
Responsibilities
- Strategic Technical Vision: Define and champion the long-term technical architecture and roadmap for Tapestry's unified grid model and AI-powered tools.
- Organizational Scaling & Leadership: Recruit, mentor, and empower a diverse team of highly skilled engineers and engineering managers.
- Product & Platform Delivery: Oversee the end-to-end development lifecycle of core products and infrastructure.
- Innovation & Research Integration: Drive a culture of applied research and experimentation, integrating cutting-edge AI/ML advancements and industry best practices into product development.
- Cross-Functional & External Partnership: Collaborate with product, research, business development, and operations teams to translate strategic objectives into engineering initiatives.
- Safety & Reliability Stewardship: Champion rigorous engineering practices, quality assurance, and security protocols to ensure the integrity, safety, and operational resilience of our critical grid infrastructure solutions.
Other
- Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 15+ years of progressive experience leading and managing large-scale engineering organizations, including managing managers and senior individual contributors.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strategic thinking with a bias for action and an ability to navigate ambiguous and rapidly evolving environments.
