Joint Commission seeks a Healthcare Data Analyst to support research and analytics initiatives that inform quality improvement, accreditation strategy, certification programs, and system-level learning.
Requirements
- Fluency in statistical programming languages such as R, Stata, or Python, including the ability to independently clean, manipulate, and analyze large datasets.
- Proficiency in extracting and managing data from structured databases using SQL.
- Experience working with real-world healthcare data such as EHRs, claims, or quality reporting metrics.
- Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to reproducible, well-documented analytics.
- Experience supporting research using causal inference methods (e.g., difference-in-differences, instrumental variables).
- Experience contributing to or co-authoring peer-reviewed journal publications.
- Experience translating complex analytic findings for non-technical stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, clean, merge, and manage healthcare datasets from a variety of sources, including patient-level EHR data, accreditation and certification records, and administrative claims (e.g., Medicare, Medicaid).
- Extract and manipulate data from relational databases using SQL and/or other tools available.
- Conduct statistical analyses using established and novel methods under the direction of research leadership; contribute to reproducible and well-documented analytic workflows.
- Use statistical programming languages (e.g., R, Stata, Python) to create summary statistics, data visualizations, and analytic tables for use in research analysis, internal strategy documents, policy briefs, and peer-reviewed publications.
- Maintain detailed documentation of data sources, definitions, programming steps, and quality checks to ensure transparency and reproducibility.
- Coordinate with research scientists and other stakeholders to ensure alignment of analytic deliverables with study objectives and timelines.
- Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, technical memos, data briefs, and presentation materials for internal decision-making and external dissemination.

- Minimum 2 years experience working with healthcare data in an applied research or evaluation setting.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, including the ability to collaborate across projects and adapt to evolving priorities.
