Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center needs to build and manage advanced research computing systems to support scientific discovery and improve pediatric care. This role will help modernize internal platforms, including an AI/GPU workload management platform, and support an expanding HPC cluster, LLM platform, and resource-intensive research applications.

Requirements

  • HPC cluster experience: creating accounts, basic understanding of batch job systems, experience with basic job troubleshooting and building software modules
  • Experience with job schedulers like LSF or Slurm
  • Experience imaging and building RHEL based servers
  • Experience with Puppet/Satellite/Ansible or related config management tool
  • Experience configuring LDAP, DNS, Apache, networking, storage, services and logging on RHEL based systems. Experience troubleshooting issues with these systems.
  • Basic server and data center hardware knowledge

Responsibilities

  • support the design, integration, and operation of computing infrastructure that enables high-performance computing, large-scale data analysis, and collaboration across diverse research domains.
  • support for an expanding high-performance computing (HPC) cluster, a large language model (LLM) platform, and a range of resource-intensive research applications, from genomic analysis to deep learning–based image processing.
  • plays a key role in the design and maintenance of a scalable research architecture, and supports interactive tools that allow researchers to engage directly with HPC resources.
  • provide support for our HPC clusters including (but not limited to) troubleshooting jobs, resource management, and compilation of software modules.
  • Collaborate in the design, development, and implementation of new and enhanced application requests to meet organizational needs.
  • Engage in analyzing, designing, implementing, and maintaining moderately complex systems that enhance clinical care and patient management.
  • Provide technical support and problem resolution for production and process issues, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.

Other

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are necessary as we interface directly with researchers on projects via email and incident management systems.
  • While not a core responsibility, this role will also contribute to broader initiatives related to advanced computing, AI integration, and platform evolution.
  • Identify and allocate appropriate resources for small to mid-sized projects, ensuring effective execution.
  • Act as a liaison between internal and external teams, facilitating communication on project-related issues and developments.
  • Participate in the creation and management of detailed project plans, ensuring timelines and deliverables are met.
