Discount Tire is looking to strengthen its cybersecurity posture and defense against dynamic cyber threats by building and refining detection and response capabilities, uncovering and mitigating vulnerabilities, and documenting best practices.

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of cybersecurity frameworks and best practices (e.g., NIST)
  • Familiarity with vulnerability scanning tools and techniques (e.g., Rapid7)
  • Familiarity with security information and event management (SIEM) systems (e.g., Splunk, Sentinel)
  • Awareness of threat detection and incident response processes
  • Familiarity with coding (e.g. Python, PowerShell)
  • Familiarity with IT systems
  • Competence in using tools like Excel or similar tools for tracking and presenting data

Responsibilities

  • Process Documentation: Create clear, user-friendly documentation for key workflows and security protocols.
  • Security Operations & MDR Collaboration: Collaborate with mentors and the MDR provider to understand threat monitoring, triage, and incident response.
  • Attack Surface Reduction: Conduct vulnerability assessments under guidance from the security team.
  • Analyze alerts and incidents to identify patterns and improve detection and response.
  • Align threat activity with frameworks like MITRE ATT&CK and Cyber Kill Chain for better context.
  • Establish feedback loops with MDR and internal teams to refine playbooks and response strategies.
  • Support performance reporting on detection, response times, and operational effectiveness.

Other

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Must be a currently enrolled undergraduate student with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • Only Junior or Senior-level students or May 2026 graduates are eligible.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
