VELCO manages the safe, reliable, cost-effective transmission of electric power throughout Vermont and as a part of the integrated New England regional network. VELCO’s Advancing Grid Intelligence through Learning Experiences (AGILE) Program is a summer internship opportunity for undergraduate and graduate college students. Based on principles of agile project management, AGILE Interns will make meaningful and tangible contributions to VELCO’s strategic projects to protect reliability and affordability of the transmission system.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with electrical engineering or related field
  • Coursework in power systems, electrical machines, or protection and control preferred.
  • Basic understanding of power system fundamentals and relay protection principles.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and relational databases
  • Learn to use industry-standard software tools such as ETAP, ASPEN, SEL AcSELerator, or AutoCAD Electrical.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and review of protection and control schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Support relay settings calculations and coordination studies under supervision.
  • Participate in testing and commissioning of protective relays and control panels.
  • Work with engineers to update one-line diagrams, logic diagrams, and control drawings.
  • Support documentation of project deliverables and maintain design records.
  • Learn to use industry-standard software tools such as ETAP, ASPEN, SEL AcSELerator, or AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in engineering, operations, and field services.
