Lumen Technologies is looking to hire Software Developer Interns to support projects involving background availability checks, node management based on environmental conditions, and providing a maintainable nameserver software instance for DNS management applications. The goal is to improve the efficiency and functionality of their IP and DNS management systems.
Requirements
- Java coding skills
- Experience with JIRA
- Containerization tools (docker/kubernetes/linux namespaces/etc.)
- Light (*nix) system admin
- IP networking knowledge
- File manipulation
- Process management (spawning/monitoring/terminating/etc.)
Responsibilities
- perform background availability checks and determine whether to automatically online/offline nodes based on environmental conditions and thresholds.
- provide a maintainable instance on nameserver software for both recursive caching “resolvers” and “authoritative” configurations.
- control anycast configurations and may include managing two distinct software implementations (bind and unbound).
- Replicating existing NISWS operations and oversight
- Upgrading spring boot to 3.5
- Upgrading java to 21 or 17 instead of 8
- Add DNS CRUD operations to Oversight
Other
- Intern must be available to work full time (40 hours/week) during the 10-week program.
- Program Dates: May 29 – August 7, 2026.
- This position is fully remote / work from home in the continental US.
- US Work Authorization required for this role.
- Program eligibility is contingent on the candidate’s commitment to the entire 10-week program. No exceptions will be made.
