Mental Health Cooperative (MHC) is seeking psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner interns to assist in providing clinical mental health services to clients of all ages, many of whom are severely and persistently mentally ill and do not have the means to pay for treatment.
Requirements
- PMHNP interns must be master’s level students in an accredited advanced practice nursing program
Responsibilities
- assist in providing clinical mental health services to clients of all ages
- apply the knowledge learned in school to develop clinical skills using evidence-based practice
- perform direct patient care including diagnosing psychiatric illness and recommending psychotropic medication when appropriate and in accordance with standardized procedures
- provide general counseling, guidance and health instruction to clients and family members
- complete clinical documentation in a timely manner that is consistent with agency standards
- play a role in the client’s treatment team with other departments throughout the agency

- This internship will provide the opportunity to apply the knowledge learned in school to develop clinical skills using evidence-based practice.
- Under supervision of their preceptor, interns will perform direct patient care including diagnosing psychiatric illness and recommending psychotropic medication when appropriate and in accordance with standardized procedures.
- Interns will provide general counseling, guidance and health instruction to clients and family members.
- Interns will complete clinical documentation in a timely manner that is consistent with agency standards.
- Interns will play a role in the client’s treatment team with other departments throughout the agency.
- Additional learning and training opportunities will be available.
- This internship requires a minimum of one semester and maximum of three semester commitment.
