HHSC is looking to hire a Senior Java Developer to work on Full-stack Java applications on their cloud platform within an Agile environment. This role will involve technical direction, development tasks, mentorship, and supporting applications across multiple environments.

Requirements

  • Object Oriented Programming (OOP) in Java programming language (Core Java, JDBC, Spring Boot, Angular, or React)
  • applications development on J2EE platform
  • microservices architecture and RESTful API development
  • Spring Aspect Oriented Programming like transaction management and security
  • writing SQL including SQL and NoSQL databases
  • React or Angular UI Framework
  • continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitLab/GitHub Actions

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the proper direction for the architectural design, planning, production support, and customer services for custom software systems, existing production & development applications, and statewide and interagency interfaces.
  • Oversees the coding, testing, and debugging of programs and the preparation of test data.
  • Provides technical advice and assistance to management and technical staff in matters related to analysis and programming activities.
  • Assists in the planning, scheduling, assigning and coordinating of analysis and programming activities.
  • Formulates business policies, procedures, and standards consistent with the agency standardization efforts within HHSC and provides on-going communications and coordination with agency project managers and subject matter experts to resolve issues or potential issue while promoting adherence to sound development standards and solution.
  • Supports applications in multiple environments with coding testing, peer reviews, documentation, defect root cause analysis, and troubleshooting as required.
  • Maintaining code coverage, testing, and security policies and procedures is required.

Other

  • This is a hands-on role that will provide technical direction to team members in addition to their own development tasks.
  • Mentorship of junior developers will also be a key requirement of this role.
  • Available for on-call support as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned and required by the unit operations.
  • Selected candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
  • Selected candidate must be willing to work from an HHS office located in Austin, Texas, designated by the hiring manager, three (3) or more days per week.
