Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is seeking an Electrical Engineer to develop cutting-edge microfluidic devices for synthetic biology applications, focusing on high-throughput screening, metabolic pathway optimization, and integrating electronic systems with microfluidic platforms.
Requirements
- Experience in circuit design, PCB layout, and electronic integration.
- Experience with sensors, actuators, microcontrollers, and data acquisition systems.
- Proficiency in programming for embedded systems using C++, Python, or MATLAB.
- Experience troubleshooting and modifying electrical and electronic devices.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to develop test plans and analyze experimental results.
- Expertise in laboratory automation robotics and hardware-software interfacing.
- Understanding of electrokinetic or dielectrophoretic manipulation of cells and particles.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and optimize electrical systems, including custom PCBs, sensors, actuators, and control circuits, for microfluidic lab-on-a-chip platforms.
- Integrate and troubleshoot microelectronic components with fluidic devices, supporting real-time data acquisition and automation for biological assays.
- Deliver scientific presentations at JBEI meetings and external conferences.
- Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and technicians to accomplish research goals.
- Contribute to scientific publications, patent applications, and project documentation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Other
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Bioengineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
- Sufficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment, document analyses and prepare, present and explain technical information and publications.
- Strong initiative, interpersonal skills, creativity, and ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.
