The New York City Police Department (NYPD) is seeking a Junior Data Scientist to join their Data Science team within the Office of Management Analysis and Planning (OMAP). OMAP's mission is to analyze and evaluate departmental policies, programs, and resources to enhance organizational efficiency and effectiveness. The Junior Data Scientist will contribute to solving departmental challenges by developing data science services, harmonizing analysis and research, and advising leadership on policy to improve decision-making.
Requirements
- experience with Python and machine learning
- the ability to work with both structured and unstructured datasets (e.g. text, geospatial, network data)
- the ability to write clean code to integrate data science services with business intelligence tools
- Experience developing full-stack software applications using Python, DQL, and/or R.
- Ability to develop statistical and machine learning models (e.g. scikit-learn, statsmodels, PyTorch)
- Ability to develop data visualizations and business communication for department leadership to improve organizational decision making (e.g. Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib)
- Ability to work with unstructured data, such as text, geospatial, and network data is preferred (e.g. NLTK, GeoPy. networkx)
