The Department of Ophthalmology needs a Junior Data Scientist to develop novel deep learning algorithms to analyze medical imaging data and answer clinically impactful questions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, biomedical engineering, imaging or related discipline such as mathematics, engineering or physics
- Master’s degree in computer science, data science, biomedical engineering, imaging or related discipline such as mathematics, engineering or physics (preferred)
- Experience in working in a research lab environment as an intern (specifically on ML/DL) (preferred)
- Experience in working with medical images such as fundoscopy images, OCT’s, MRI's, digital histopathology (desired)
- Experience in using containerization software such as Docker (desired)
- Understanding of deep learning packages such as PyTorch & TensorFlow
Responsibilities
- Develop and deploy machine learning algorithms and data analytics to improve patient care and efficiencies
- Build machine learning models to analyze medical images
- Maintain project code in Github
- Use frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow to develop state of the art machine learning pipelines
- Perform statistical analysis in languages including R and Python
- Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and members of the research group in the area of machine learning, computer vision and natural language processing

- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
- Outstanding customer service skills
- A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis
- Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire
- Hybrid schedule of 2 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings in Aurora, CO
