The Mitchell lab in the Department of Entomology at Penn State is seeking a Laboratory Research Technologist to assist with laboratory research on the chemical ecology of insects.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree
- 1+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted
- Knowledge of laboratory research techniques in chemical ecology
- Experience with research instrumentation, live insects, and repositories of genomic sequence data
- Ability to develop standard operating procedures for laboratory techniques
- Ability to provide training for graduate and undergraduate students
Responsibilities
- Perform experiments and analyze data related to laboratory research in chemical ecology, including but not limited to field collection of insect specimens; extraction of insect-derived compounds; purification and sequencing of nucleic acids; genomic annotation of gene families; and functional expression of chemoreceptor proteins.
- Assist in maintaining laboratory resources, including research instrumentation, live insects, and repositories of genomic sequence data.
- Develop standard operating procedures for laboratory techniques and provide training for graduate and undergraduate students.
- Order laboratory supplies and reagents; ensure laboratory safety and compliance; maintain records of such.

- Successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies
- Authorization to work in the U.S.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle as a part of job duties
