The Cal Alumni Association (CAA) is seeking to develop and deliver an outdoor education program for 6th-grade students, requiring support in curriculum development, outreach, program delivery, and evaluation.
Requirements
- Basic knowledge of California's teaching standards
- Wilderness First Aid (WFA) and CPR certification (funding available; to be acquired within two months of hire)
Responsibilities
- Assist in the development of an outdoor education curriculum based on Next Generation Science Standards for California Public Schools, Kindergarten through Grade Twelve (CA NGSS), integrating concepts in natural history, environmental sciences, and sustainability.
- Deliver engaging, hands-on in-school programming (as needed) to students, including interactive lessons on biological sciences, ecology, and natural history, to help prepare students for the outdoor education program.
- Assist in the development of criteria for evaluating program effectiveness through pre- and post-program surveys and reflections, to ensure continuous improvement of the programming.
- Help coordinate outdoor education experiences, to ensure safety and success for all student participants.
- Provide additional support for program activities, including event planning, training undergraduate students, social media development, and other tasks as needed.

- Recent graduate with a bachelor's degree in biological science, environmental science, or a related field.
- Strong communication and organization skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with educators, students, and colleagues
- Interest and enthusiasm for teaching and outdoor environmental education
- Some experience or familiarity working with school-aged children
- Must possess a valid CA driver's licence
- California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) certification (available online through UC Learning Center; to be acquired within one month of hire)
