The Cloud Engineer is responsible for the translation of cloud strategy and architecture into a highly available and secure technical implementation, in accordance with best practices. The person in this role is also responsible for continuous monitoring and optimization of the cloud implementation for technical and cost efficiencies and continuous support of, and collaboration with, other teams and projects, particularly DevOps, platform and automation teams.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience with Azure Cloud and native toolsets such as Azure ARM Templates, Hashicorp Terraform, AWS Cloud Formation
  • Extensive experience with automation and configuration management using Azure DevOps, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Jenkins or similar.
  • Experience with the following: Azure Kubernetes Service, Azure SQL Server, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure EventHub, Azure App Service, Azure Function Apps, Blob Storage, Azure DNS, Virtual Networks, Azure Service Bus, Identity Management etc.
  • Strong experience with the Linux operating system.
  • Strong background in scripting and automation in languages such as Python and Powershell.
  • Strong background in cloud operations instrumentation and monitoring of distributed architectures using Splunk APM, DataDog, AppDynamics, Nagios or similar.
  • Strong background with source control management systems (GIT or Subversion); Build Systems (Maven, Gradle, Webpack); Code Quality (Sonar); Artifact Repository Managers (Artifactory), Continuous Integration/ Continuous Deployment (Jenkins, Azure DevOps)

Responsibilities

  • Design, and execute a comprehensive reliability and availability strategy across the Digital portfolio
  • Lead the design of cloud-native applications, ensuring they are scalable, maintainable, and efficient
  • Implement best practices in cloud architecture in alignment with the Azure Well-Architected Framework, ensuring our solutions are secure, efficient, and cost-effective
  • Oversee cloud infrastructure, employing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices to automate deployment
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize cloud environments.
  • Automate the provisioning of cloud environments through the concept of "pipeline engineering" using Terraform, Chef, Puppet and other tools.
  • Research, analyze, design, develop and support high-quality automation workflows in the cloud platform that are appropriate for business and technology strategies.

  • The person in this role must be a highly collaborative, creative and intellectually curious engineer who is passionate about forming and implementing cutting-edge cloud computing capabilities.
  • Drives the adoption of site reliability best practices throughout the organization with the ability to demonstrate this empirically through stability and reliability metrics
  • While embedding with teams, strategize, consult, and prototype alongside other engineers to implement best practices and solutions for applications utilizing CI/CD and the cloud.
  • Evangelize Distributed Version Control and Trunk-Based Development practices, ATDD and TDD, Pipelines and Infrastructure and Release Automation
  • Ability to effectively communicate with other senior leaders of IT on program strategies and plans and negotiate quality solutions
