Apple Maps is seeking an innovative and seasoned Applied Scientist to lead the development and application of generative AI technologies to help revolutionize maps building and enhance user experiences, all the while keeping each experience fresh and relevant!
Requirements
- Proven experience in Generative AI/LLMs/Foundation Models with a proven track record of deploying solutions in production
- Strong programming experience in one or more of the following: Java, C++, Python
- Experience with ML frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch
- Familiarity with privacy-preserving techniques, ethical AI practices and responsible AI deployment.
- Experience working with geospatial data, computer vision or natural language processing for real-world applications
- Deliver as a technical team lead; guiding a set of engineers and applied scientists
- Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to tackle complex, large-scale challenges
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and optimize generative AI models to automate map creation, enhance spatial data accuracy, and enrich the map's visual and contextual quality in real time using multi-model data and crowdsourced input.
- Design and deploy AI-powered features that improve exploration, discovery, navigation, deliver personalized recommendations, and support accessibility for diverse users.
- Create scalable AI solutions to handle global map data, ensuring reliability and consistency across various geographies and cultures.
- Explore and apply state-of-the-art advancements in multi-model generative AI, deep learning, and natural language processing to create unique, future-ready mapping experiences.
- Innovate tools for business owners to manage and optimize their presence on Apple Maps using AI insights and generative solutions.
- Integrate generative AI capabilities seamlessly into Apple Maps products and services.
- Advocate for and implement ethical AI practices, ensuring fairness, transparency, and alignment to Apple’s privacy principles in all generative AI applications.

- MS in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning or equivalent field with 10+ years of applied AI research and product development experience
- Strong collaboration driven track record of execution and delivery
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with executive presence
- PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or equivalent field
- Desire to tackle meaningful problems which lie at the intersection of user-experience, big data processing and computational algorithms
