Charlotte Mecklenburg Library is looking to improve its services and operations through evidence-based decision-making by analyzing data. This role is critical to the Library's evolving data strategy, supporting local and state reporting requirements, organizational decision-making, and implementation of the Library’s Strategic Direction.
Requirements
- Data manipulation and querying: Ability to manipulate and query datasets using programming languages like SQL (Structured Query Language) or data manipulation tools like Excel or OpenRefine to extract, transform, and analyze data effectively.
- Statistical software and tools: Experience with statistical software packages such as R, SPSS, or SAS, as well as data visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI, to conduct advanced data analysis and generate visualizations.
- Advanced proficiency with analytic and technical software applications appropriate to position, e.g., Galvanize (ACL) or equivalent, Microsoft Office Suite, Power BI, etc.
- Knowledge of statistical analysis techniques, including descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, regression analysis, and hypothesis testing, to conduct rigorous data analysis and interpret results accurately.
- Knowledge of data visualization principles: Understanding of best practices in data visualization to create clear, meaningful, and visually appealing charts, graphs, and dashboards for presenting data findings to stakeholders.
- Data cleaning and data quality management: Proficiency in data cleaning techniques to identify and address data inconsistencies, errors, and missing values, and ensure high-quality data for analysis.
- Data collection and extraction: Ability to collect, extract, and retrieve relevant data from various sources, such as library databases, systems, APIs, or external sources.
Responsibilities
- Document, collect and gather data from various library systems, databases, and sources.
- Clean, validate, and transform data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and integrity.
- Develop and implement data collection methods and procedures to capture relevant information.
- Analyze data using statistical techniques and data mining tools to identify patterns, trends, and correlations.
- Generate meaningful insights and recommendations based on data analysis to support evidence-based decision-making.
- Create actionable and audience-appropriate reports, dashboards, and visualizations to present data findings to stakeholders in a clear and understandable manner.
- Maintain data management systems, ensuring data documentation, quality, security, and compliance with relevant regulations.
Other
- Minimum of two years’ experience in a related field.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Data Analytics or a related field.
- May require a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License
- May require County Driving Privileges
