Altera is looking to improve the Linux experience for their FPGA-SoC devices by owning the upstream Linux kernel support and ensuring high-quality integration of their platform into mainline Linux.
Requirements
7+ years of experience in Linux kernel development, preferably with embedded systems or SoC platforms.
Demonstrated experience contributing to or maintaining code in the mainline Linux kernel.
Strong understanding of device drivers, board bring-up, and SoC-level Linux integration.
Ability to lead technical discussions and guide engineering teams toward architectural consensus.
Prior experience as an official maintainer in the upstream Linux community.
Familiarity with FPGA-SoC platforms or other tightly integrated software/hardware systems.
Experience working with Yocto, U-Boot, and Linux distribution integration for embedded devices.
Responsibilities
Serve as the official maintainer for Altera’s FPGA-SoC Linux kernel code, listed in the MAINTAINERS file on kernel.org.
Own the upstreaming strategy and ensure high-quality integration of Altera FPGA-SoC support into mainline Linux.
Provide technical leadership to a team of Linux kernel developers working on the FPGA-SoC platform.
Collaborate closely with hardware and software architects to define Linux interfaces for new FPGA-SoC designs.
Act as the primary point of contact between Altera and the upstream Linux community for this platform.
Ensure a smooth developer and customer experience through high-quality code, documentation, and example designs.
